Summer Defined by Avery

She came in like lightning. And she arrived with ALL THAT HAIR! Summer for her is all she knows so far. We have had a great summer with her! When she first arrived home, she was piled up with toys from big sister and big brother.
And all of you parents out there can totally relate to this picture below. Who knew you could actually sleep sitting up, while still using your legs to rock you both to sleep?

Nevertheless, she has come full force to fufill her role as "baby sister." Since the first week we have had her home, she has been smiling and "talking" to her big sis and bro. It is really quite amazing. I have never seen a baby interact as much as she does, so young. Both the kids talked to her in my belly all during the pregnancy, and I really believe she heard and is just carrying on talking back to them now that she is out!
She has been to 3 states already in her short little life, and has traveled along like it's nobody's business! She has vacationed in the mountains for a week with the rest of us. She traveled along to all the amusement parks and water slides, went for walks, shopped in the little area shops, went out to eat, and sat by the campfire. Below is a picture of her crashed in the cabin after a long day at the amusement park. (we had the "christmas cabin" as you can tell by the comforter!)
Not only has she been to the mountains, she's been to Maine and Boston too! She is really quite the traveler. Below is a happy picture in her car seat which she has become familiar with with all the travelings.
Shortly after her birth, I realized that she seemed to be very uncomfortable when she was trying to poop, and was having quite a bit of spit up, and difficutly eating. Long story short, we discovered she has a milk protein allergy and actually had blood in her little poops! Poor baby. She also suffers from acid reflux. So, I eradicated all dairy from my diet (since I am breastfeeding), and we put her on meds for the reflux. She is now very comfortable and relaxed. As I said before, she has always been so happy - smiling since her first week. But now that we figured out what was making her uncomfortable, she is the easiest, most relaxed baby ever. EVER. She is so easy. She sleeps through the night. She takes long naps. She smiles and laughs when she's awake. She tolerates her siblings saying, "hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi, hi" about 1 inch from her face all day long. She never protests on anything. She is one cool little lady.
I must say, that my attitude is completely different with her. With Alexa, being the first, you don't know what you are doing, so everything is new and scary and unsure. With Zachary I was determined to be more relaxed, then we found out he had a heart defect and had open heart surgery at 2 days old, which just returned me to the same unsure feelings I had with Alexa. With Avery, I feel like I can just ENJOY her. My perspective is different in that I know that it really does just fly by so fast. I don't want to miss anything with her or wish away her early months. I feel like I can really enjoy the time I have with her as a little baby and take it all in. And she just absolutely reciprocates the joy that I have with her. Below she is just hanging out on a hot day.

As I rock at night before she goes to bed, I always wonder who she will be. What she will be like. How she will change our family even further. Then I just close my eyes and enjoy the feeling of holding her in my arms...because it will only be for a little while.
